12 year old Mutava Mutie, has been carrying his 11-year-old best friend and disabled neighbour, Braise Chogo to and from school everyday for the last two years. The two boys are inseparable. They go to school together, eat together, attend classes together and play together. They share a bond and friendship that friends and family describe closer than brothers, yet they are not blood relatives.
Braise, has Spina Bifida and is paralysed from the waist down. He is unable to control his bowls or bladder. He lives in a one-room shack with his parents and sister in the depths of Marigoini slums, down the street from his best friend Mutava.
For the last 2 years, Mutava wakes up at 6am everyday, collects his friend and carries him on his back for the 2km walk to school. At School Mutava lovingly looks over Braise for the whole day. Then when school is over, Mutava dutifully picks up Braise and they return home together.
A daily routine that is motivated by true friendship.
