Under the Bridge

The Street Children Community of Olongapo City

Under a bridge that crosses the river, in Olongapo City in the Phillippines, a community of street children aged between 6-18 years old live watching over each other while trying to survive on a daily basis.

The children are from very poor families, or abusive situations. Their only haven being the street and their new family under the bridge.

They beg for money by helping park cars across the street and survive on hand outs. They help one another with food, cooking and washing. To numb their pain they sniff glue.

The public try to ignore their existence and they are often beaten by the police, being arrested for petty crimes like stealing food and get illegally put in an adult jail for months.

Even in this situation of survival, the children function like a community, helping one another.
